Our History
Located on the outskirts of the historic town of Alcáçovas, in the heart of the Alentejo landscape, lies Herdade da Burquilheira
The Story
With the aim of experiencing the rhythm of rural life, since 2009, we have put down roots in Alentejo, and it is in Burquilheira and the landscape that surrounds it that we feel at home.
The farm thus became a place in transformation. Initially, we acquired some Limousine cows, which are currently the matriarchs of the herd.
We worked the land and planted the olive grove. Our Amante olive oil is extracted from its olives.
From the beginning, there was a concern to preserve the natural landscape and respect the local heritage. As such, Monte da Burquilheira was restored to create the main house, the mother's house and the country house for our friends and guests.
The old Poldril da Burquilheira, where the foals raised here were formerly weaned, has been rebuilt, turning it into a modern equestrian centre for training and breeding sport horses.
The Message
2019 was a year of decisions and change: we decided to improve our ecological footprint by converting all agricultural activity to an organic farming method. This conversion was completed at the end of 2021 and all agricultural production is now certified, creating a self-sustainable cycle that prioritizes the preservation of nature.
“We invite you to visit us, to experience this rhythm of rural life and to listen, calmly and slowly, to the silence of Herdade da Burquilheira.”
